Money Heist trivia starts with a show that was never meant to conquer the world. La Casa de Papel began as a two-part limited series, then Netflix acquired its global streaming rights in late 2017 and re-cut it into twenty-two shorter episodes for worldwide release.

By 2018, the series had become Netflix’s most-watched non-English-language show. That turnaround came with a very specific blend of heists, aliases, music, and imagery that made the Spanish drama instantly recognizable across borders.

What was the first heist in Money Heist?

The first heist targeted the Royal Mint of Spain. The Professor’s plan placed sixty-seven hostages inside the building, with the robbers aiming to escape with €984 million.

The crew moved under city-name aliases: Tokyo, Moscow, Berlin, Nairobi, Rio, Denver, Helsinki, and Oslo. Those names gave each robber a separate identity inside a story built around one long, carefully planned robbery.

The first robbery ended after 128 hours. By the time it was over, Oslo, Moscow, and Berlin had been killed, closing the first chapter of the series with losses that shaped everything that followed.

Why did the masks and song stand out?

The robbers’ masks were designed as Salvador Dalí masks because of Dalí’s recognizable face and his place as an iconic cultural reference to Spain. The image became one of the show’s most identifiable symbols, tied directly to the crew’s public image.

Another signature detail was the song “Bella ciao.” In 2018, it became a summer hit across Europe because of the series. The song’s rise matched the show’s own spread, turning a TV moment into a widely recognized cultural reference.

What was the second major target?

The second heist targeted the Bank of Spain. That move expanded the story from the Royal Mint of Spain to a new, even bigger setting, while keeping the same focus on planning, pressure, and the group’s internal dynamics.

The shift from one national institution to another helped define the series’ structure: each heist built on the last, but the recognizable aliases, masks, and emotional stakes remained part of the show’s identity.

How was the final part released?

The series’ fifth and final part was released in two five-episode volumes. That format gave the closing chapter a split release while keeping the story centered on the same core group and the consequences of the earlier heists.

Money Heist also earned major recognition beyond streaming numbers. It received the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series at the 46th International Emmy Awards, a milestone that matched its global reach and its position as a standout non-English-language hit.
