Play this story's trivia (2 questions)Attack on Titan turns a simple survival premise into a maze of walls, Titans, and secrets. If you want attack on titan trivia, the story starts with humanity trapped inside three enormous walls, facing man-eating Titans outside.
What world does Attack on Titan build?
Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity lives inside three enormous walls that protect them from man-eating Titans. That enclosed setting shapes everything that follows: fear, defense, and the desperate search to understand what the Titans are.
The manga ran from September 2009 to April 2021 and was collected in thirty-four tankōbon volumes. By November 2023, it had over 140 million copies in circulation, which places the series among the most widely circulated manga of its era.
The anime adaptation expanded that world on television, bringing its walls and Titans to a wider audience. It was produced by Wit Studio for seasons one through three and by MAPPA for season four.
What are the Titans in Attack on Titan?
The Titans in Attack on Titan include the Nine Titans, also known as Titan Shifters, such as the Attack Titan, Colossal Titan, Armored Titan, and Founding Titan. These are not the only Titans in the story, but they are the most important to its major reveals and power shifts.
Pure Titans are created by injecting Eldians with Titan spinal fluid. That transformation turns a human into a Pure Titan, making the series’ body horror part of its larger system of power and inheritance.
If a Pure Titan eats a human who has one of the Nine Titans, that Eldian returns to human form and gains the Shifter's powers. The cost is severe: that person is cursed to live only thirteen more years.
That rule gives the Nine Titans a built-in limit, and it makes every transfer of power part of the story’s tension. The series does not just ask who has strength; it asks how long that strength can last.
How did the anime unfold over time?
The first season of the anime ran for twenty-five episodes from April to September 2013. That debut brought the early walls-and-Titans story to television in a long, tightly packed run.
The anime's fourth and final season premiered in December 2020, with its third and fourth parts airing as two specials in 2023. Across those releases, the television version followed the manga’s later revelations and its final stretch.
Wit Studio handled the first three seasons, while MAPPA produced the fourth season. That split marks the series’ television history in a clear way: the anime remained one continuous adaptation, but its production changed hands for the final season.
Why did Attack on Titan stand out?
The manga won several awards, including the Kodansha Manga Award, the Attilio Micheluzzi Award, and the Harvey Award. Those honors sit alongside its long run from 2009 to 2021 and its thirty-four-volume collection.
Attack on Titan’s impact also comes from how its worldbuilding connects each reveal to a system of rules. The three walls, the Pure Titans, the Nine Titans, and the thirteen-year curse all fit together as one story framework.
That structure gave readers and viewers a series full of secrets to uncover, from what lies beyond the walls to how Titan power passes from one Eldian to another. It is a story built around answers that arrive through hard rules, not loose magic.
For a series with over 140 million copies in circulation by November 2023, that combination of scale, mystery, and adaptation history became part of its identity.
